This policy covers the AnimaEcho Chrome extension only. The AnimaEcho iOS app and this website are covered separately by our main privacy policy, which describes a different product with a different design.
The short version: we operate no server for the extension, we receive nothing from it, and we have no account system, no analytics, and no way to identify you. Anima runs in your browser and talks to Google using an API key you supply yourself. What follows explains exactly what that means, including the parts that are not flattering.
1. What we collect
Nothing. インターナショナルデザイン合同会社 receives no data from the extension. There is no sign in, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no analytics, and no server of ours that the extension contacts in its default configuration.
We cannot see your conversations, the pages you visit, or whether you use the extension at all.
2. What leaves your browser
The extension is useless without sending something somewhere, so here is the whole list. Everything below goes directly from your browser to Google, using your own API key, and does not pass through us.
- Microphone audio, streamed to the Google Gemini Live API while the microphone is on. The microphone is off until you turn it on, and turning it off stops the stream. Audio is not recorded, written to disk, or kept by the extension.
- Text from the page you are on, up to 8,000 characters, sent so that Anima can talk about what you are looking at. This happens only while Anima is visible and only while the "What she sees" setting is on. Switch it off and no page content is read at all.
- The contents of a Google Doc, Sheet, or Slides file you have open, retrieved through Google's own export endpoint using your existing Google session. These files render into a canvas, so there is no page text to read otherwise. This is subject to the same "What she sees" setting, and it retrieves the whole file rather than just the visible part.
- Search queries, when the model chooses to use Google Search to answer a question.
3. What Google does with it, and why the free key matters
Once your audio or page text reaches Google, Google's terms govern it, not ours. There is an important difference between the two tiers of the Gemini API, and it affects you directly:
- On the free tier, Google states that prompts and responses may be used to improve Google's products and machine learning technologies, and that human reviewers may read them. Google advises against submitting confidential or sensitive information to unpaid services.
- On a paid tier, Google states that prompts and responses are not used to improve its products.
Most people will install this extension and paste in a free key, because that is the easiest thing to do. If you do that, treat everything you say to Anima, and every page and document she reads, as material a human at Google may see and Google may learn from. That includes private documents. If that is not acceptable for what you are working on, either enable billing on your Google Cloud project so your key is on the paid tier, or switch off "What she sees" and keep the microphone off around anything sensitive.
We would rather say this plainly than bury it. Google's current terms are at ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms and its privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
4. What is stored, and where
The extension writes a small amount of data to your browser's local extension storage. It stays on your computer and is never transmitted anywhere by us:
- Your Gemini API key.
- The address of a relay, if you configure one (see section 5).
- Your chosen microphone.
- Whether "What she sees" is on.
- Anima's position on screen and her size.
Your API key is stored the way browser extensions store settings, which is unencrypted on your own machine. Anyone with access to your computer and your Chrome profile could read it, the same as any other extension setting. Treat it like a password, and revoke it in Google AI Studio if you stop using the extension.
Conversations are not stored. Page text is held in memory only while a session is running and disappears when you close the tab, hide Anima, or quit Chrome.
5. If you run your own relay
The extension can optionally connect through a relay, a small server that holds a Gemini key so the key never sits in the browser. This exists for developers and for people who prefer that arrangement. It is off by default, and there is no relay of ours that the published extension points at.
If you configure a relay, your audio and page text pass through whichever server you pointed it at, and whoever runs that server can see them. If that server is not yours, you are trusting its operator. We are not that operator.
6. Permissions, and why each one exists
- activeTab and scripting: to place Anima on the page when you click her toolbar icon, and to read that page's text for the feature described in section 2. She is not on any page until you ask for her.
- offscreen: to hold the microphone and the audio connection in a document that Chrome will not shut down mid sentence.
- storage: to keep the settings listed in section 4.
- tabs: to know which tab she is currently in, so she is shown and hidden in the right place.
- sidePanel and contextMenus: to open her settings and transcript panel.
- Host access to sites you visit: requested only so she can appear on the page you are on. It is what makes the extension work at all, and it is used for nothing else.
7. Selling and sharing
We do not sell your data, share it, or transfer it to third parties, because we do not have it. We are not able to sell what never reaches us.
8. Children
The extension is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. Anima is a conversational companion intended for adults.
9. Changes to this policy
If the extension starts doing something this page does not describe, this page changes first, and the date at the top changes with it. If we ever add anything that sends data to us, it will be opt in and stated here before it ships.
